Lisa Bonet files for divorce from Jason Momoa two years after announcing split

When Jason Momoa married Lisa Bonet, his “childhood crush,” he knew that anything was possible.

Unfortunately, that “anything” included Bonet gifting him a legal separation on their third wedding anniversary.

Now, two years after the couple announced their intent to split, Bonet has filed for divorce, leaving the 44-year-old Aquaman actor a single man.

Almost 20 years before they actually met, Jason Momoa was a lovestruck eight-year-old boy whose eyes were glued to the TV set, specifically on a 20-year-old Lisa Bonet as Denise Huxtable on The Cosby Show.

At the time Bonet, now 56, was married to Lenny Kravitz, with whom she shares daughter Zoë, also an actor.

But the Hawaiian-born Momoa, only a boy at the time, had plans for Bonet, whom he described to Esquire as “literally my childhood crush.”

Speaking with James Corden in 2017, the ruggedly handsome Momoa said, “I was like, ‘Mommy, I want that one.’” Joking with the host, he continued, “I’m like, ‘I’m going to stalk you for the rest of my life and I’m going to get you…’ I’m a full-fledged stalker…But yeah, [I’d] just always wanted to meet her. She was a queen, always.”

Two decades after stalking her on TV, Momoa’s dreams came true when he met Bonet at a jazz club. In 2007, couple welcomed their daughter Lola Iolani, and the following year, they had a son, Nakoa-Wolf (meaning warrior). At the same time, the Game of Thrones star became a loving stepfather to Zoë Kravitz, who calls him “papabear.”

In 2017, the massive Momoa and Bonet – who legally changed her name to Lilakoi Moon but goes by Lisa Bonet professionally – were wed in a secret ceremony.

“If someone says something isn’t possible,” said the star of Apple TV’s See, “I’m like, ‘Listen here, I married Lisa Bonet. Anything is f***ing possible.’”

But, after almost five years of marriage, the stunning couple shocked fans when they announced their breakup in January 2022.

Irreconcilable differences

In a joint statement, the two shared, “We have all felt the squeeze and changes of these transformational times…A revolution is unfolding and our family is of no exception… feeling and growing from the seismic shifts occurring…And so we share our Family news that we are parting ways in marriage. The note continues, “The love between us carries on, evolving in ways it wishes to be known and lived. We free each other to be who we are learning to become…”

According to ET Online, though the announcement of their split was made in January 2022, Bonet’s court filing lists their date of separation as Oct. 7, 2020, which was her and Momoa’s three-year wedding anniversary.

The star of A Different World, who cites irreconcilable differences as the reason for the split, says in the filing that neither her or Momoa receive spousal support, “and that their separate property assets and debt go to their respective parties,” writes ET.

Bonet, who also appeared in Ray Donovan, is looking for joint legal and physical custody of their kids, Lola, 16, and Nakoa-Wolf, 15.

Despite their failed relationship, the star of Slumberland says he and Bonet are “still family,” and will remain amicable for the children, including Zoë whose career he continues to support.

Jason Momoa was so cute for fanboying over Lisa Bonet! We’re sure it’s a difficult time for the whole family and we wish them the very best in the future.
