Patricia Kopta was known as ‘The Sparrow’ and worked as a street preacher in Ross Township, which is north of Pittsburgh. In 1992, her husband reported her missing after not being able to find his wife anywhere.
There had been no news of her until now. Ross Township Police announced that the case had officially been solved and Kopta had been located to be alive in Puerto Rico.

Police in Ross Township were contacted by an Interpol agent and a social worker who believed they had located Kopta who was currently residing in a care facility in Puerto Rico.
She had been found to be in need of care since June 1999. Police relayed that the woman had been reluctant to give any details pertaining to her personal life before she had arrived in Puerto Rico. She only disclosed that she had arrived in Puerto Rico on a cruise ship from Europe. She kept other details about herself quite vague.
It was much more recently as she grew older that she became more forthcoming about her past and revealed details about her life which allowed for officials to track down her family in the USA.
Officers in Pennsylvania were able to track down Kopta’s sister and nephew who provided DNA samples to be tested alongside hers to establish that it indeed was Kopta that had been found.
Both Kopta’s husband and sister were present at a press conference her sister Gloria Smith said, “We’re very thankful to know that Patty is alive and well,” adding, “She’s being well taken care of. We really thought she was dead all those years. It was a very big shock to know that she’s still alive, I hope I can get down to see her.”
Patricia Kopta was legally declared dead years ago.
