Surprising update on Amanda Bynes’ mental health months after psychiatric hold

Amanda Bynes is ready to start a new chapter in her life.

Following a 5150 psychiatric hold in June, the former Nickelodeon star is showing signs she is dedicated to improving her mental health.

“Amanda is doing her best to take care of herself through different treatments. She has been trying to maintain her privacy and spending time with people she likes and trusts,” a source told Entertainment Tonight.

In March, the 37-year-old actress called 911 on herself when she realized she was “coming down from a psychotic episode.” She was taken to a hospital where she was placed on a 72-hour psychiatric hold.

Bynes contacted the police again in June, and she was taken to a police station where she was evaluated to determine if she needed further treatment.

The following month, just a week after finishing an outpatient program, Bynes checked into an intensive inpatient mental health treatment center in Orange County.

“When Amanda was admitted to a mental facility a few months ago, things weren’t going as well for her. She was very distressed, concerned about her past and reputation, surrounding herself with the wrong people who were bad influences, and not taking her medication,” the source told ET.

The actress was recently spotted in public for the first time since entering the facility. It’s said that she has graduated to the program’s minimal supervision level – a major step in her healing.

“Amanda was doing better recently and trying her best to take care of herself. She has been making an effort to go to AA meetings, trying to hang out with sober people, and she looked good. The only problem is she is inconsistent about taking her medication, which causes issues.”

While sources indicated Bynes appreciated all the support she received at the southern California facility, ultimately she has been “thinking about her future and considering moving away from LA and getting away from the spotlight. She feels like it is long overdue.”

Although Bynes wants to get away from the glitz and glamour of Hollywood, she does hope to take on a new work project and looks “forward to moving forward with exciting offers that have come her way.”
